Welcome to Ron Spomer Outdoors! I have a special treat involving a good friend of mine who's really enthusiastic about going on safari in Africa. We hunted together, and our wives joined us on a trip to Mozambique. We had such a great time that all he can think about is going back to Africa. So we are going to tell everybody about this adventure we had, but I really want to hear it from your perspective, folks. What I really enjoy about taking new hunters to Africa, someone who's never been there before is sharing their experience with them or seeing it through their eyes.

Who is Ron Spomer
For 44 years I’ve had the good fortune to photograph and write about my passion - the outdoor life. Wild creatures and wild places have always stirred me - from the first flushing pheasant that frightened me out of my socks in grandpa’s cornfield to the last whitetail that dismissed me with a wag of its tail. In my attempts to connect with this natural wonder, to become an integral part of our ecosystem and capture a bit of its mystery, I’ve photographed, hiked, hunted, birded, and fished across much of this planet. I've seen the beauty that everyone should see, survived adventures that everyone should experience. I may not have climbed the highest mountains, canoed the wildest rivers, caught the largest fish or shot the biggest bucks, but I’ve tried. Perhaps you have, too. And that’s the essential thing. Being out there, an active participant in our outdoor world.

More Important Than Flat Shooting Cartridge
4:20 It’s looks better done by hand. Well done!!
Happy to find the 308 field training video, watched your lightweight video last night. When I have time, I tune in.
The 33 WCF was a good rifle in the 1886 .
Nope... others have already said it: the 10mm was "too much" so they downloaded it and eventually the .40 S&W arrived on scene... thankfully the 9mm game was improved and the .40 is now going by the wayside.
A long throated 7x57 in a1916 DWM Mauser with a custom barrel loaded with 139 grain sst. 50 grains imr 4350 3100 fps at 4300 ft elevation, & it’s a mild load.kinda reminds of a 130 gr. 270 win!
What came first. The short, long or long rifle.?
@ Ron Spomer Outdoors i remember wathching this vid years back, how about an update
Ron, I enjoy your videos. I know you are a western man . There's 2 rifles you didn't have in your 30-06 round up week. The 740 and 760 (7400 and 7600) I understand you can't get representative firearms of all models. My father shot a Remington 760 carbine in 30-06 for years, until I gifted him a model 4 in 30-06. (A gift for helping me with schooling after high school) My 7600 carbine is a 1" rifle with 180s. These rifles have served us well for years. Most of my cousins and uncles still use the 06 in these firearms. With some tuning, these rifles can do 1" groups. Mine does 1" at 100 yards with 180s,( I gifted my father's 760 to one of my twin sons. His model 4 will go to his twin after I take a whitetail with it. Don't get me wrong, I love my ruger bolts. I have M77 in 25-06, .338 and .300.
What caliber?
Congratulations on the new H&H. Nothing like becoming a dad. Its even better than the African Hunt. Awesome presentation as usual and thanks for sharing.
What is going on with the shots? You are. ECK USMC
What is going on with the shots? You are. ECK USMC
Mine is in a Savage 24V, 222 Rem over a 20 gauge, circa 1968. Thanks Dad.
I own both, going to add the 35 rem to my lever action collection.
Good for China glass.
A 165gr at 3,000 ft/s is one of the hottest handloads
260 is THE cart
The 280 rem beats them all to a reloader
The price is to much for what your getting. They are still trying to cash in on the brand name.
Those prc's aren't going know were stop trying to sell it on people
I am death.
Nothing.
Ron that was a really great piece with a grounded, terrific bloke. More power to you both.
I am lucky to own my version of the Jack rifle. My 1949 Winchester model 70 in .270 is topped off with a vintage Redfield Widefield (TV Screen) rear optic scope. I love that rifle and last deer season I took a 7-point Buck at 130 yards in the evening 5 minutes to 5 pm with just enough light in a gorgeous corn field in Nova Scotia Canada. A Great core hunting memory.
So stupid .. we know ballistics
Cva wolf uses 209 shotgun primers not musket capa
European engineering That's a work of art.
JUST TOO MUCH TROUBLE TO TELL WHAT MODEL SMITH,! I GUESS?WHAT CALIBER!
The other option is the 130grn bullet at 2950fps in still the Creedmoor and the 260 rem. The only difference is the bullet RPM, I will never use any 140grn or larger, especially with the new copper bullets lighter and faster yet. Use the right bullet, and you have true winners. They also carry high enough bc for those five hundred yards shots, and for me, no more lost game from those heavy bullets that travel to slow to use up the bullets sectional density or giving over penetration. PRC'S now that's the place for those heavy's.
Excellent video Ron. Way back in 1986 I sold my truck and many other personal items to go on a lifetime dream 15 day combo hunt to Alaska, and boy did it pay off for me. I came home with a big Dall ram, a B&C moose, a nice caribou and a black bear. Believe me it was worth a dozen trucks to me and I never regretted it. Thanks for all the great videos you put out, it's very much appreciated.
H and H. That's a good one!
Why didn't you get a 22 Hornet in there?
I’m 73 years old, my first deer rifle was a Winchester 94 in .30-30. 14th birthday present. Physics doesn’t lie. Don’t preach mythology to me. “They say” don’t cut it here.
who cares about you fools or jeffey cooper
Wow big news 😂😂😂😂😂
So ridiculous
Who’s paying the rent tonight?
I have not had much success with Winchester ammo.
1993 I lost my prime rifle hunting place in NW Wis, had to find another. The answer was learn muzzle loading. Gander MT messed up and gave me a TC Renegade to make it right. Not bragging, but the range officer showed me the basics, my first shot, guys yells 'bullseye 9 o'clock' in front of a crowd that gathered to watch. Started learning things fast, like how weather affects powder loads, colder - more powder. I don't have failures, it's not the caps. always the powder behind the nipple. So glad to see you had T Center like mine, such a fine rifle, easy to learn. In-line isn't traditional, so rewarding to have learned old-school shooting.
Nice shirt, Chase! I like to get wildlife print button-up shirts whenever I can. They are classy and comfortable in most any weather. Not to mention, if a bit of your lunch gets on it, nobody notices. You can't do that with a solid color shirt!😊
Was Ron laying pipe in Africa?
Still driving my 2012 but have a wall of African plains game on the wall ha
The old myth of enemies hearing the Garand ping is funny to me. How would anyone hear anything after hundreds of high powered rifle rounds going off during battle and then being able to pick out that ping at distance. No way.
Hemmingway reportly shot a running Rhino at some-300 yards with his springfield and he noted it as one of his most spectacular shots he had ever made.
1.47" is 47% larger than 1" so I probably wouldn't say it's pretty much the same. Just my 2 cents.
I guess if my feet land in a geographical location that would warrant the need for the 375 H&H I would get better acquainted with it. South Africa maybe? For the past 50 years though the 30.06 has been my huckleberry. Always a pleasure to hear your insight Ron.
Well done great information and awesome Hunt, congratulations with a beautiful baby 🍼🙌🏻🙌🏻
Thank you very much
35 whelen/ 9.3x62 week would be a good one. Might be hard to accumulate new rifles
History records, that the army in WW1 used the 1917 Enfield (US Rifle cal 30 M1917). The Marines did use the 1903 exclusively. That is the most heavily documented WW1 use information. the Sgt York thing is still disputed, it is true he preferred the 03, but the documentation is not available to show which rifle he had at the time of his action that got him the Medal of Honor.
you forgot the ohio ordinance HCAR, but im not sure you were interested in that kind of semi auto 30-06 autoloader
